Sunrisers Hyderabad pulled off an impressive win over an in-form Rajasthan Royals team at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Monday, April 13.
The Orange Army lost the toss and were asked to bat first. Abhishek Sharma was out on the very first ball, Jofra Archer gave a great start to the Royals. Travis Head scored 18 runs on the ball. However, it was Ishan Kishan who performed brilliantly with the bat, scoring 91 runs in just 44 balls.
Heinrich Klaasen was involved with his captain in a match-winning partnership of 88 runs off 39 balls. At the end of the innings, Nitish Kumar Reddy (28 off 13) and Salil Arora (24* off 13) helped the hosts cross the 200-run mark. They eventually finished at 216/6 from their 20 overs.
In reply, Rajasthan Royals lost five wickets for just nine runs in three overs. Two debutants – Saqib Hussain and Prafulla Hinge wreaked havoc. The latter took four of the five wickets.
Donovan Ferreira and Ravindra Jadeja Steady the ship by making a partnership of 118 runs in 72 balls. However, this helped the Royals reduce the margin of defeat. Ferreira and Jadeja finished on 69 (44) and 45 (32) respectively. Tushar Deshpande scored 25 runs in 11 balls lower down the order before Royals were bowled out for 159 in 19 overs. Saqib Hussain and Prafulla Hinge finished with figures of 4/24 and 4/34 respectively. Sunrisers won this match by 57 runs.
talking points
Ishan Kishan played captaincy innings
Ishan Kishan Showed once again why he is rated so highly. Against the strong bowling lineup of Rajasthan Royals, the southpaw did not waver. He reached the crease after just one ball in SRH's innings and attacked the bowlers. His sensational innings troubled the Rajasthan bowlers, who failed to come up with a strategy that could stop Kishan from playing his naturally aggressive game.
SRH benefits from supporting youngsters
Sunrisers Hyderabad management had started the tournament by supporting experienced players like Jaydev Unadkat and Harshal Patel. However, once he realized that both the legends were failing to make an impact, he mustered the courage to debut two fast bowlers in the same match. They were rewarded for their bravery as Prafulla Hinge and Saqib Hussain made light work of the famous Rajasthan batting lineup.
Donovan Ferreira and Ravindra Jadeja showed commendable resilience
Had it not been for Donovan Ferreira and Ravindra Jadeja, Rajasthan Royals would have lost the match by a huge margin. They mixed caution with aggression to put on a partnership of 118 runs off 72 balls. The Royals eventually lost the match by 57 runs. However, the RR management will be happy to see that the lower-order batsmen, who did not get much chances in the previous matches, are in good form.
who said what
Riyan Parag, Rajasthan Royals captain:
“To be honest, there is not much time to feel the emotions. We lost two wickets in a row, thanks to the way they bowled. Probably a few miscalculations from us, but we will just take it as a blip and not think too much about it. (On the pitch) it was actually quite good. I felt it could have been better to bowl second, probably because we lost wickets. It was a bit sticky with the shine from the new ball. The shine was gone. “Looking back, we could have done better. I think I played with Shakib once in Bihar, the way he bowled in the first four or five overs was really impressive. Ishan Kishan was batting really well, so I didn't want to take that risk, but from a batting perspective, to get down to 160 runs speaks volumes for the depth of our batting, and as I said, it was just a blip. We will move on to Kolkata and do better.”
Ishan Kishan, Sunrisers Hyderabad captain:
Obviously very happy with the win, added 2 runs with the ball, so I felt happy because you know what we were expecting from the bowlers is to come out here, play freely, execute our plans and I think we did that today and hopefully it's credit to all the bowlers. (On giving chances to debutants tonight) No, I think you also have to see how hungry your young bowlers are, how motivated they feel and you know how hungry they are to play these games and I think they have been working all season. They were working with fielding, our bowling coach Varun Aaron and they were all trying to give their best while talking to the experienced players. So I think that's what we were looking for and we have to give them a chance when we are playing at our home ground. He also performed well especially in the practice matches, so I think it was the right move today. (Did you score 25 less runs with the bat?) I think looking at the batting unit and the form of these guys, because we are at least scoring 200-plus runs every game. So yes, but still I think the way Abhishek plays, you know, sometimes he may get out, but our job is, you know, take the game deep and play those triggering shots, but leave him free because he is such a guy, if he gets going, you know, he changes the game and takes you to a total of 260 or 270. So we don't ask for anything else from him. But still, yes, he got out. I think he will be motivated in the next game and he will do that. (Not taking gloves, reason?) I think, you know, as a captain, I felt, you know, there was some miscommunication going on. You know, sometimes you don't have time to keep up. You are not able to tell your bowlers what the plans are. So it's better to be there, discuss with them what they are going to bowl so that we can get the feel, set the fielding accordingly. And that was the plan and I think it worked out pretty well for us. (Is this the way forward?) Hopefully, yes.
Prafulla Hinge, Player of the Match:
(Envisioned such a beginning?) I thought about it. Last year I had written somewhere that whenever I play my first match, I will definitely take four or five wickets. And I wanted to dominate as much as possible in the powerplay. I believe in it. I don't know about others, but I believe. (About his journey) I started playing cricket at the age of 13. I didn't even know what leather-ball cricket was then. When I was 13 I told my dad I wanted to join a club. He refused once or twice saying that I was too young. But somehow, things took off from there. After that, I just kept playing. It really feels great to stand at this point. I want to dedicate this award to my family. He has sacrificed a lot for me. I just want to say that their hard work and sacrifice means everything. The best was the first wicket of Suryavanshi, because he was in form. I had already told some people that I would get him out on the first ball, either with a bouncer or some other way. I just wanted his wicket on the first ball. This was the plan. Besides, our bowling coach Varun Bhai also helped me a lot. And I am grateful to everyone who supported me. (Past injuries) Everything is fine now. I would like to thank MRF for taking good care of me. When I was there, the physio Naveen sir took very good care of me. Today I have reached this stage, so I want to thank them also.
