Venkatesh Prasad has confirmed his candidature to contest the election for the post of President of Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). He is also the frontrunner for the post as he enjoys immense support and endorsement from veteran Indian cricketers like Anil Kumble and Javagal Srinath, both of whom have held official positions in the state association in the past.
After officially filing his nomination on November 13, Prasad has expressed his desire to revive the association from its current sorry state. The former India fast bowler believes that cricket has been left behind in KSCA, and there is more of a political administration, which is hindering the growth of the game in Karnataka.
Venkatesh Prasad told reporters on Thursday afternoon, “We are here for a cause and purpose. The revival of cricket is the main priority and to ensure that our domestic structure gets back to the way it used to be when Anil Kumble and Javagal Srinath were at the helm of the association. We have seen a decline in cricket since then. The game has gone backwards. And now we want to revive it.”
Prasad has also assured that he will work on a roadmap to bring back cricket at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, one of the most iconic cricket venues across the country. He also wants Royal Challengers Bangalore to resume their games by making amends for all the things that happened during the stampede incident on June 4, a day after winning their first IPL title in Ahmedabad.
“We are going to work extremely hard to ensure that the Bengaluru team (RCB) plays at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in the upcoming IPL. We will also work to bring back the glory to Chinnaswamy (Stadium) which it has lost in recent times,” Prasad said.
If reports are to be believed, RCB will play its home games at the MCA Stadium in Pune during the 2026 season of the cash-rich event. Maharashtra Cricket Association officials have also confirmed that talks are underway with RCB on making Pune a possible venue for all their home games in the upcoming season.
