Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Ryan Parag INR 12 lakhs have been fined to maintain a slow rate during the match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2025. On March 30, at the ACA Stadium in Guwahati, the game saw RR safe for a narrow six -run win, but the team failed to complete their overs, causing Parag's sentence.
Under Article 2.22 of the IPL's Code of Conduct, the captains are held accountable for their team's over-rate performance. Since this was RR's first crime of the season, Parag was fined 12 lakhs. In the previous IPL sessions, frequent crimes inspired the captains to face the match suspension, but a new rule introduced before the IPL 2025 has exempted the captains from sanctions, instead implemented demerit points and financial punishment.
After Hardik Pandya, a skipper of Mumbai Indians, Parag became the second captain in IPL 2025, who were fined after the game against Gujarat Titans. It was decided to punish the captains financially instead of suspending them during a meeting of team captains in Mumbai on 20 March. Under the new rule, the captains will receive demerit points for slow rate-by-rate crimes, which will be tracked in three years.
