RCB posted a total of a total after being asked for batting first. Openers Virat Kohli and Devdutt Digical took responsibility on themselves after losing Phil Salat early and set up a very important stand of 91 runs. Jasprit Bumrah had the bowlers' MI pick, scoring just 29 runs in his four overs despite being a wicket -free. The rest of the MI attacks looked ineffective against the RCB batsmen. Chasing 222 for victory, Mumbai needed a strong start. Rohit Sharma, after the trimming of an injury, looked good in the beginning, hitting the back-to-back boundaries with Yash Dayal and made Bhuvneshwar Kumar six distance to kickstart Chase. However, Dayal casting his stumps and sent veteran batter packing 17 off 9 balls.
