Jasprit BumrahMumbai Indians' star pacer has checked in to the BCCI Center of Excellence, less than a week before the start of the Indian Premier League 2026 season. It is unclear whether his visit is due to any injury concerns or a routine fitness assessment. Mumbai Indians are set to begin their campaign against Kolkata Knight Riders on March 29 at the Wankhede Stadium.
According to Times of India, the right-arm fast bowler is currently in Karnataka and has not joined the MI team yet. Last week, MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene had confirmed that four MI players who were part of India's T20 World Cup-winning squad had been given an extended break.
“Every year, our target is to get there (win the trophy). But I know it's a long season. So the pre-season will start the same way we usually start, working hard, incorporating new boys into the setup. And with our (T20) World Cup guys, we've given them a bit of an extended break so that they join us next weekend,” Jayawardene was quoted as saying by TimesofIndia.
“The overseas guys also flew home and then they will join us. But before the first game they will get a good week's training with us,” he said.
Bumrah is entering the tournament on the back of a brilliant campaign in the T20 World Cup. The 32-year-old was the joint-highest wicket-taker with 14 wickets, including a match-defining four wickets in the final, helping India clinch their second consecutive T20 World Cup title and third overall.
Bumrah also enjoyed a great IPL 2025 season and took 18 wickets in 12 matches. In an era dominated by high-scoring games, often over 250 runs, it was his remarkable economy rate of just 6.67 that really stood out.
With 183 wickets in the IPL, Bumrah remains the leading wicket-taker for Mumbai Indians and will be keen to add to his wicket tally in the upcoming season. A key figure in four of MI's five title-winning campaigns, he remains an important and experienced pillar of the franchise.
