Chennai Super Kings (CSK) suffered a big shock IPL 2025 As his captain, Ruturaj Gikwad was dropped from the tournament after maintaining the fracture of the elbow. Not only a captain, he was one of the team's best batsmen. Without him, the top-order of CSK also looks weak.
While his batting replacement is yet to be confirmed, the team has decided to hand over the captaincy duties to MS Dhoni for the remaining matches. Head coach Stephen Fleming confirmed development at a press conference on April 10 before CSK's domestic game against Kolkata Knight Riders.
Later on the same day, CSK's official social media account released a video where Gaikwad talked about his injury, how will he remember the season, and yet how excited he is to see the “young wicketkeeper”, leading the team.
“Yes, it has been a challenging season, but we have found a young wicketkeeper who is now leading the team, and hopefully things will roam. I will be the same with the squad with the squad, who is supporting them with a dugout. I loved to help the team get out of this position, but some things are just out of our control. In a video posted on CSK's social media handle, Gikwad said that to support boys for the rest of the campaign, here is moving to a strong finish for the season.

CSK does not have a great time in the tournament with four defeats in five matches. Along with Dhoni as a captain, CSK fans will have some relief and hope for the remaining season.
In the absence of Gikwad, Chennai -based franchise will expect the choice of Rahul Tripathi, Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra to work for the team. In addition, Shivam Dubey and Vijay Shankar will have to manage in the middle order. It will be interesting to see how the season now comes out for CSK, with Dhoni to do what he is most known.
