Captain of Punjab Kings (PBKS) Shreyas Iyer Reflecting on one of the standout moments of the second qualifier of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, his memorable shot against Jasprit Bumrah during a recent appearance. The PBKS captain recalled how common sense and composure played a vital role in that high-pressure situation.
The stroke, which came at a crucial moment in the knockout clash between MI and PBKS, not only displayed Iyer's fearless approach but also underlined his ability to adapt against world-class bowling. Against Bumrah, known for his pinpoint accuracy and deceptive variations, Iyer's performance stood out as a defining moment in the contest, earning praise from fans around the world.
Speaking about the shot and his mindset while facing Bumrah, Iyer explained what was going through his mind before the way he played against one of the best bowlers in the world at the moment.
“It was completely instinctive. I was trying to hit him straight down the ground. The idea in my mind was that wherever he bowled, I would aim straight at him. When you get in that position, your head is completely still and your body moves in a certain flow. When you are facing probably the best bowler in the world, who executes his angles and balls brilliantly, you have to back your instincts to play that shot and hit him down the ground. While directing towards third man, I appreciated that too,” Iyer told JioStar.
He further explained why he decided not to celebrate the moment, stressing the importance of emotional control in important matches.
“I didn't celebrate because I knew we had to come back after a day and play there again. If you show emotions, your heart rate goes up and down. Once you have control over your emotions, you can be very clear in your mindset and be decisive about the main goal,” concluded the star cricketer.
Under the leadership of Iyer in 2025 PBKS Reached IPL final for the first time in 2014. They have also had a great start to IPL 2026, winning five of their first six matches, and they will be looking to make it count this time too, as the franchise is still in search of their maiden title in the marquee T20 tournament.
