Cameron Green becomes the most expensive Cameron Green
The IPL 2026 auction saw many moments, but none sparked more debate than the contrast between Josh Inglis's Rs 8.60 crore deal and Cameron Green's record-breaking price of Rs 25.20 crore. Green's valuation exceeds Inglis's fee by a wide margin. However, when broken down on a per match basis, the salary can see the opposite result. Despite being sold for less than a third of Green's price, Inglis is set to earn significantly more per game in IPL 2026.
All-rounder, Green entered the IPL 2026 auction as one of the most sought-after overseas all-rounders and Kolkata Knight Riders bought him for Rs 25.20 crore, making him the most expensive overseas player in IPL history, surpassing Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins.
English has confirmed to play four matches
On the other hand, Inglis entered the auction after being released by Punjab Kings due to limited availability for the April 18 wedding. Inglis was officially listed as being available for only four matches. Despite this, Lucknow Super Giants took an aggressive approach, outbidding many franchises and surprising PBKS by acquiring him for Rs 8.60 crore, even as questions were raised over how many games he would actually play.
Cameron Green will get only Rs 18 crore
Although Green was sold for Rs 25.20 crore, he will not get the full amount. Ahead of the 2026 cycle, the IPL introduced a regulation fixing the maximum salary payable to overseas players at Rs 18 crore, making it the highest retention slab. Any amount above this, in Green's case, Rs 7.20 crore, will be sent to the BCCI's Player Welfare Fund, even if the entire bid is deducted from KKR's purse. As a result, Green's actual earnings for IPL 2026 will not be Rs 25.20 crore but Rs 18 crore.
Josh Inglis vs Cameron Green: Why is the man worth Rs 8.6 crore more expensive than the star worth Rs 25.20 crore?
Meanwhile, Green is expected to play at least 14 games, assuming KKR complete the league stage, with a possible addition if the team reaches the playoffs. Green's per match earnings spread over 14 matches are approximately Rs 1.28 crore per game.
In Inglis's case, he has committed to four IPL matches so far on the basis of availability informed to the franchises by the BCCI. At Rs 8.60 crore for four matches, the wicketkeeper-batsman earns Rs 2.15 crore per match, which is about Rs 90 lakh more per game than Green.
Josh Inglis will play extra games
This number may change if Inglis extends his stay. According to multiple reports, he may postpone his honeymoon and return after his wedding, potentially playing additional games. However, even with four matches in, his per-game payment has already exceeded the most expensive foreign purchase in IPL history.
It is notable that PBKS released Inglis just 45 minutes before the retention deadline after being informed of his limited availability. The fact that LSG has bid aggressively, possibly relying on a change in plans, has reportedly led PBKS to consider approaching the BCCI.
