Ryan Parag made an adventure call to Sandeep Sharma for the last final of the age-the-seat Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Conflict between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Sunday, 30 March.
After selecting the first bowl, CSK pulled out things well towards the end of the first innings, when Rajasthan Royals collected 129/3 in their first 12 overs. The last eight overs scored only 53 runs for the domestic side. Nitish Rana stood outside for Royals as he scored 81 runs in just 36 delivery. Parag also contributed with 28-gent 37. Noor Ahmed, Khalil Ahmed, and Mathesh Pathirana took two wickets with two wickets for CSK.
Ruturaj Gikwad put CSK's innings together, even Rajasthan took wickets from the other end. The right -handed batsman left for 63 runs in 44 balls, who fell victim to Vanindu Hasranga, which ended with outstanding figures of 4/35 at night.
MS Dhoni promoted Himal to number 7 in order to bat, with yellow men need 54 runs, which were to win the last 25 balls. The 43 -year -old partnered with Ravindra Jadeja as CSK fans up their tails. In the last two overs, CSK needed 39 runs to win.
Parag had one over for each of each of its three pacers – Jofra Archer, Tushar Deshpande and Sandeep Sharma. Instead of going for Archer and Sandeep, who is a more experienced bowler at the time of death, Parag handed over the ball to Deshpande. Paper of Mumbai accepted three borders in the over, in which Dhoni killed four and six.
The last over required 20 runs, and when Archer, who scored just 13 runs in his first three overs and also raised the wicket of a dangerous Rachin Ravindra, on one over left, Parag opted to give Sandeep to Sandeep. Veteran Pesar strongly bounced a wide but firmly bounced to dismiss Dhoni with the next ball. Shimron Hetmier took an unprecedented catch on deep mid-wicket to send Dhoni packing.
Why did Ryan Parag give Sandeep Sharma to 20th position?
There is no doubt about Sandeep's acumen as a bowler in the death over. He can nail Yorker and change his speed for batsmen for batsmen. However, he also experiences the closure of matches with Dhoni in opposition.
It is interesting to note that Sandeep defended 21 runs in the last over against CSK in Dhoni's 200th IPL game.
Meanwhile, Parag explained his feelings after winning his first win in the IPL as a captain. He also mentioned the reason why he chose Archer not to bowl at the time of death.
“(How he feels after his first win as a captain) took a long time, just two games, but really felt for a long time. We still think that we were 20 less. We quickly lost some wickets (in the middle overs) some wickets. But we really bowled well. We have two difficult games, but chat had to forget those games, come with a fresh mindset and say a good game.”
“(Not bowling on archer) Just assessing the situation, fortunately had seven options. Went with a spirit of the intestine. Fielding always makes for those runs that we were less. We are working a lot with Disher Yagnik, our fielding coaches, and paying it,” he said.
