In a strange turn of events, the on-field umpires allowed Karthik Tyagi Despite the bowler delivering a few waist-deep no-balls during the LSG vs KKR encounter, he continued to bowl in the all-important twentieth over. The general rule states that a bowler must be removed from the attack, and another player from the team must complete the rest of the over. However, Tyagi continued to bowl as KKR were defending 17 runs from 6 overs.
The batsman in question was Himmat SinghWho caught a ball thrown around his chest, and got a free hit on the next ball in a thrilling last over. The free-hit ball was also bowled above Himmat's waist. The KKR teammates gathered together and Anukul Roy was mutually selected to finish the over. However, just as the suit was setting up its field, Tyagi was once again seen marking his run-up.
Why was Kartik Tyagi allowed to bowl?
While the rule book stipulates that a bowler is prohibited from bowling two no-balls higher than waist height, the reason Tyagi could bowl was because the second no-ball was not deemed dangerous by the umpires. On air commentators confirmed this, while also stating that the second one was intentionally not delivered.
