Why are MI players wearing black bands against SRH in Match 42?

Mumbai Indians (MI) During the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday, April 29, all the players of the team were seen wearing black bands.

The five-time champion is paying tribute to the unfortunate demise of the daughter of one of his support staff. The team, known for its close-knit relationship, once again showed why they consider the team a family.

“Due to the untimely demise of our support staff's daughter, Mumbai Indians players are wearing black armbands today in her memory and in solidarity with the family,” MI said on its social media account.

It is worth noting that this is not the first time that a team has been seen wearing black armbands in this season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Both Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders were seen wearing black armbands earlier this season to pay tribute to former India cricketer CD Gopinath, who tragically passed away at the age of 96.

CSK also wore black armbands in their game against Mumbai Indians last week to pay tribute to Mukesh Chaudhary's late mother.

Despite MI's disappointment against SRH, the hosts made a great start to their innings. At the end of the powerplay they were 78 runs without losing a single wicket, with returnees Ryan Rickelton and Will Jack facing the new ball bowlers.

MI still desperately need a win to qualify for the playoffs. Hardik Pandya's side are currently ninth in the standings, having collected only four points from their first seven matches. They have lost four of their last five matches.
