Punjab's young wicketkeeper-batsman Salil Arora is making headlines with his domestic performances. The 23-year-old recently grabbed everyone's attention after his brilliant century in 39 balls in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Super League stage. With his consistent run-scoring ability, Arora has suddenly become a serious name to watch, especially as franchises look to strengthen their Indian batting depth for IPL 2026.
Born on 7 November 2002 in Amritsar, Punjab, Arora represented Punjab Under-19 and later made a place in the senior team. Although still new to professional cricket, he has shown his skills in all formats. Arora had earlier made headlines by scoring a century on his first-class debut against Madhya Pradesh in 2024. However, his recent exploits in the SMAT 2025 have made him a hit among IPL teams.
Arora's 39-ball century against Jharkhand at the DY Patil Academy in Pune is considered one of Punjab's finest T20 innings in recent years. With his team struggling at 62/3 inside eight overs, the right-handed batsman brought up his half-century in 23 balls and then took just 16 balls to complete his century.
Arora's century becomes Punjab's third highest SMAT score
His unbeaten inning of 125 runs off 45 balls included nine fours and eleven sixes. His havoc, including three sixes and a four on fast bowler Sushant Mishra in the final over immediately went viral on social media. This innings is now Punjab's third highest SMAT score after Abhishek Sharma (148) and Shubman Gill (126). This took Punjab to a huge score of 235/6.
While his T20 century grabbed the headlines, Arora is not a one-dimensional player. His first-class numbers will be something the team will seriously consider. In nine FC games, he has scored 458 runs at an average of 41.63, including one century and three fifties. In T20, he has 142 runs in six innings at a strike rate of more than 165. As a keeper, he has completed 25 catches and five stumpings in FC and one catch and one stumping in T20.
Arora has been listed in the wicketkeeper category in the IPL 2026 auction pool at a base price of Rs 30 lakh. Many teams are looking for depth in the Indian batting, especially a wicketkeeper who can play as a finisher or an impact option. Teams like Kolkata Knight Riders, who are actively looking for an Indian wicketkeeper, are likely to keep a close eye on him. His strike rate and finishing ability make him a strong mini-auction selection, even though he only has a few T20 matches under his belt.
