Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batsmen Urvil Patel Chepauk enthralled the crowd by scoring the joint-fastest half-century of the Indian Premier League (IPL) against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Sunday, May 10.
The right-handed batsman scored 50 runs in just 13 balls to match Rajasthan Royals opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. Urvil hit five sixes in a row, followed by a four which ensured he had a chance to create history at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
After reaching his record-equalling half-century, Urvil's celebration was emotional. First, he folded his hands to thank the loyal Chennai crowd and then took out a piece of paper from his pocket and drew it for all to see.
The piece of paper carried by Urvil had an emotional message written in Gujarati, “This is for you, Papa.”

From the time he came to bat after the wicket of Sanju Samson, it looked like Urvil was set from the start. He hit three consecutive sixes off Avesh Khan, before hitting two more sixes in the next over bowled by Digvesh Rathi.
Urvil scored 65 runs in just 23 balls with the help of two fours and eight sixes at a strike rate of 282.61. The Gujarat batsman was eventually dismissed by Shahbaz Ahmed in the 10th over after hitting the ball straight to extra cover, where Avesh was positioned.
The CSK batsman equaled Jaiswal's record by almost three years. The RR batsman scored 50 off 13 balls for the first time during the 2023 IPL season against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens. On that occasion, Jaiswal scored an unbeaten 98 off just 47 balls at a strike-rate of 208.51.
This was only the fourth game played by Urvil in the IPL this season. Before his heroics against LSG, his top score in this year's tournament was just 24, which he scored against Mumbai Indians. However, after today he has registered his name forever in CSK folklore.
