Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batting coach Michael Hussey has given the real reason for this. ms dhoni He missed the field to watch his team play during the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) while he is recovering from his calf injury.
According to Hussey, the 44-year-old does not want his presence at the venue to be a distraction to his team and hence he does not want to take the spotlight away from the players playing in the middle. Most of the crowds attending CSK matches are there to see Dhoni's presence, and if he is not around, the entire focus remains on the team rather than any one individual.
“He's not coming. He's a team-oriented guy. He always wants what's best for the team, and he was worried that if he came, there would be too much distraction. Obviously, the cameras would be on him a lot. The crowd would be cheering for him and things like that. And he really wanted the team to be able to do its job, do its job,” Michael Hussey was quoted as saying on Cricbuzz.
Despite Dhoni's absence on match days, the former Indian captain remains an integral part of the CSK dressing room and has been giving support and guidance to the players, as per Smile.
He said, “Whether he is right or wrong, that is not my decision. But that is the thinking that Dhoni does not want to come to the matches. Obviously, he is watching very closely at home. I personally like to have him around the dressing room. He provides a lot of knowledge. He provides a lot of confidence to the rest of the guys.”
Dhoni was set to make his much-awaited CSK comeback last month before it was revealed that he suffered another blow to his already injured calf during a practice match.
However, the former captain continues to travel with the rest of the team. Dhoni was seen training with the rest of the CSK team at the MA Chidambaram Stadium ahead of the match against Mumbai Indians on Saturday, May 2. However, it is still not certain whether he will compete against the fellow five-time champion or not.
