'Time for Bihar IPL team'

Vedanta chairman Anil Agarwal has advocated the creation of an IPL franchise from Bihar, saying the state deserves its own cricket identity, just like other major Indian cities that already have successful teams in the league. Taking to social media, Agarwal said that Bihar has produced many talented cricketers over the years and now has the makings of its own franchise similar to teams like Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders.

Highlighting Bihar's growing contribution to Indian cricket, Agarwal pointed to players like Ishan Kishan, who was born in Patna. He also told Vaibhav Suryavanshi from Samastipur, who became one of the youngest players to make his IPL debut, and praised Gopalganj fast bowler Saqib Hussain for his impressive performances, which has started attracting the attention of the entire cricket world.

He said, “It has always been my dream and endeavor that the youth of Bihar get every opportunity to excel in every field and that our players get world-class infrastructure and support right here in Bihar. I am confident that if our children get the right inspiration and facilities, the team coming out of our Bihar will become the best in the world.”

With talented players from Bihar like 15-year-old sensation Suryavanshi (Rajasthan Royals), Mukesh Kumar (Delhi Capitals), and Saqib Hussain (Sunrisers Hyderabad) shining in IPL 2026, the demand for a standalone Bihar franchise has never been stronger.

“And I stand firmly with the youth of Bihar in this endeavour. I will extend my unconditional support to Bihar's cricket team and its players to take them forward. For me, Bihar is not just a state – it is an emotion. And now the time has come for the talent from our soil to shine on the field,” Agarwal wrote.
