Jason Holder's catch during Gujarat Titans vs Royal Challengers Bangalore in Match 42 of IPL 2026 caused a huge debate in the cricket world, with many experts and fans giving mixed reactions on the fairness of the catch which led to the fall of RCB captain Rajat Patidar at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday, April 30. former cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin Have also joined this debate.
Ashwin believes that the catch taken by Holder in the deep square leg region was completely fair and the West Indies international did not touch the ball on the ground. Clarifying his stand, the former cricketer said that Holder has very big palms and the ball usually disappears because of them. Ashwin is completely in agreement with the umpire's decision and said that Holder wrapped the ball around while passing it under his fingers.

“If you're on the RCB side, you might think he was unlucky. If you look at it from the GT side, it's a clean out. But if you're looking at it as a neutral one, it's a completely fair hold,” the veteran India cricketer said.

Notably, the Caribbean cricketer narrowly escaped a collision with his teammate Kagiso Rabada Trying to complete the catch. Although there was no scuffle between the two, Holder said that he was fully committed to completing the take and his eyes were on the ball at all times. The experienced all-rounder said that he was very careful not to collide with Rabada and also catch the ball.
“Yes, I saw him. I was just hoping I didn't collide with him. I don't know what would have happened if two big guys had collided with each other. He was in my peripheral vision, but I thought he was too far away for me to take the catch. My main focus was just to commit, try and stick to it,” Holder said during the post-match press conference.
