Holder bowled a match-winning spell of 4/24 against Punjab Kings on Sunday, helping GT register its third consecutive win.
Earlier, the West Indies star had taken 2/29 along with taking crucial catches in the field against Royal Challengers Bangalore. His disciplined approach, particularly consistently hitting good lengths despite aggressive batting, has been important, a trait developed through years of experience in Test cricket.
Holder, who led the West Indies cricket team in 37 Test matches between 2015 and 2020 and was once considered the world's top all-rounder, revealed that he still has ambitions of making a comeback in the longest format.
“It's fair to say that in the last one and a half years I have only played T20 cricket, not Test cricket. I would still love to play some Test match cricket. I haven't closed that chapter yet,” Holder was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.
Holder last played a Test in August 2024 against South Africa, while his most recent first-class appearance came for Barbados in March 2025. In 69 Test matches, he has taken 162 wickets and scored 3073 runs at an average of 29.83, including three centuries and 14 fifties.
In IPL 2026, Holder has made an immediate impact, taking seven wickets in four matches at an impressive economy of 6.94. While his contribution with the bat has been limited, 40 runs in three innings at a strike rate of 148.14, the all-rounder admitted that he expects more from himself in finishing games.
“I'm probably a little disappointed that I didn't finish the last two games. But I'm still in good mental shape. That's the most important thing for me. Just keeping a fresh mind, staying positive, understanding my role and trying to execute when called upon. Just trying to make an impact and perform as well as possible even under pressure.”
Now GT will face Rajasthan Royals On 9 May at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur.
