Essex get big boost for their T20 Blast 2026 campaign with star batsman Jordan Cox Returning to the team ahead of their game against Kent Spitfires on Tuesday, 9 June. The team, formerly known as the Eagles, is second in the South Group with 12 points from five matches.
With the return of Cox, Essex's batting lineup will now look stronger. The right-handed batsman was part of the title-winning Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL). However, the wicketkeeper-batsman failed to appear in any of the 16 matches contested by his team and remained a frequent member of the bench, occasionally coming on to the field to fill in for an injured or unavailable player, including in the final.
Following the conclusion of the IPL, Cox returned to his homeland, where he played two List A matches for the England Lions against South Africa A as captain. Before this, he had played three matches against Pakistan Shaheens in Abu Dhabi.
Cox's last franchise outing was with the Pretoria Capitals in the 2026 SA20, where he scored only 32 runs in six matches at a strike-rate of less than 100.
Despite his recent poor form and no appearances, the 25-year-old's return would be huge for Essex, who are currently competing on two different fronts. The Chelmsford-based side will be hoping that their star batsman can spend a few months with their first team as they look to challenge for the title in the T20 Blast and County Championship.
His tenure in IPL rcb It also meant that Cox missed out on a place in England's Test squad ahead of the three-match series against New Zealand, leaving the backup wicketkeeper spot to Somerset's James Reeve.
Cox was essexBest player of T20 Blast last season. The right-handed batsman scored 342 runs in 10 matches at a strike rate of 165.21, while the average was 38.
