Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have signed Dilshan Madushanka As an injury replacement for Brydon Carse for the remainder of the IPL 2026 season. The Sri Lankan left-arm fast bowler joined the franchise for Rs 75 lakh, strengthening their pace attack at the crucial stage of the tournament.
Carse, who was retained ahead of the 2026 auction, suffered a right hand injury while batting in the nets ahead of SRH's opening clash against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). At the time, head coach Daniel Vettori expressed optimism about a speedy recovery, but the injury ultimately ruled the England international out of the competition.
Although Madushanka is yet to make his IPL debut, he has valuable international experience. He has represented Sri Lanka in one Test, 28 ODIs and 19 T20Is, and has taken a total of 70 wickets across all formats. Interestingly, he was previously a part of the Mumbai Indians squad in the 2024 season but missed the tournament due to a hamstring injury.
SRH's bowling unit has been under scrutiny this season, especially with captain Pat Cummins recovering from injury and experienced bowlers like Harshal Patel and Jaydev Unadkat struggling for consistency. Due to this, the team management gave a chance to debut to young fast bowlers Prafulla Hinge and Saqib Hussain in their recent match against Rajasthan Royals (RR).
The move paid off immediately, as both rookies impressed, taking four wickets each in an impressive 57-run win. SRH scored a strong score of 216/6 with the help of captain Ishan Kishan's explosive inning of 91 runs in 44 balls. For Rajasthan, Jofra Archer was the standout bowler with figures of 2/37, while Donovan Ferreira put up a tough fight, scoring 69 in the chase. However, RR were eventually all out for 159 in 19 overs, with Hinz contributing 4/34 and Hussain 2/24.
They are currently fourth on the points table with two wins from five matches and will look to build on the momentum when they face Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium on April 18.
