Punjab Kings (PBKS) won its last league game against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by seven wickets at BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium on Saturday, May 23.
Punjab Kings won the toss and decided to bowl first. While he picked up two quick wickets, Josh Inglis and Ayush Badoni brought their team back into the game with a thrilling partnership of 49 runs off 23 balls. After Badoni was out for 43 off 18 balls, Inglis took it upon himself to provide the pace.
Rishabh Pant got the start but failed to convert it into a big score. Inglis was eventually out after scoring 72 runs in 44 balls. LSG needed someone to finish strongly and Abdul Samad came as their savior. The Jammu and Kashmir cricketer scored an unbeaten 37 off just 20 balls and helped the hosts finish at 196/6 in 20 overs.
In reply, PBKS had a very poor start as Mohammed Shami dismissed Priyansh Arya on the very first ball. In his next over he dismissed Cooper Connolly, who scored 18 runs in 10 balls.
Shreyas Iyer And Prabhsimran Singh counter-attacked which troubled the LSG bowlers. They put on a 140-run partnership off just 76 balls and when Prabhsimran was out for 69 (39), PBKS needed only 35 runs to win in five overs.
Iyer got angry in the 16th over bowled by Shami and hit three sixes on the experienced fast bowler. On the last ball of the 18th over, Iyer registered his first IPL century by hitting a six off Mohsin Khan. He remained unbeaten on 101 off 51 balls and that ensured PBKS's seven-wicket win with two overs to spare.
