Star English batsman decides to withdraw from IPL 2026 to focus on international career


Soon after it was confirmed that KL Rahul will open the batting for Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, the English opener ben duckett Has withdrawn from the tournament starting from March 28. Duckett has said that he has decided to focus more on his international career, as he does not find himself in good form.

Before the IPL, Duckett played for the Three Lions in the Ashes against Australia. Playing down the order, the left-handed batsman faced a tough time in the middle, managing only 202 runs in ten innings at an average of only 20.2 in a series where the English lost 4–1. England's summer begins with a Test series against New Zealand in June and Duckett will be looking to score runs in the upcoming season.

Duckett gave this information through his official social media handle on Tuesday, March 24.

“I have made the extremely difficult decision to withdraw from the IPL. I have thought about it a lot and it is not an easy choice. Representing England is something I have dreamed of since I was a child and I want to give English cricket everything I can. To do this, I need to make sure I am in the best shape physically and mentally before the summer,” Duckett wrote in a post on his Instagram account.

Duckett said, “I want to sincerely apologize to everyone in Delhi. I was really excited about the opportunity to represent the franchise and I fully appreciate the time and planning that went into building the team. I am sorry for any disruption my decision caused. I also want to apologize to all the fans because I know how much this means to everyone in Delhi.”

Meanwhile, DC has not yet announced the cricketer's replacement. However, an announcement is expected soon.
