Former Indian cricketer Yograj Singh Despite India's victorious campaign in the T20 World Cup 2026, young opening batsman Abhishek Sharma has been sharply attacked. The southpaw endured a mixed debut tournament, registering three consecutive ducks before showing glimpses of his potential with a Super 8 half-century and a blistering innings in the final against New Zealand.
However, Yograj was not impressed with the overall consistency. Yograj, while speaking openly, questioned the young player's focus and approach towards the game.
Yograj said on InsideSport, “You fail because your mind is somewhere else. Abhishek, what is happening with Shubman Gill? Failure comes only when your mind goes somewhere else. That is what is happening with Abhishek. The guy goes around making reels, that is not his job. He should go to sleep at 9 pm, wake up at 5 am and play a thousand balls.”
The former cricketer also did not shy away from criticizing the discipline of the current young players and their distractions off the field. The former India fast bowler, who enjoyed a fairly short international career, stressed that modern cricketers often lose their focus due to social media and other engagements, which ultimately affects the performance on the field.
He further added, “It will take him another age to get close to Yuvraj Singh. The whole universe works on discipline. That's how cricketers should work. Where are cricketers going wrong? Parties, girls, money, shooting all the time.”
Yograj further said that he is very disappointed with this approach and mentality Abhishek Sharma Plays the game and says he usually reaches the opener.
Yograj concluded, “I am very disappointed with him (Sharma). Many times I send him messages – don't take this game lightly. He will always say 'Yes, sir'. The left-handed opening batsman is coming off the back of India's victorious T20 World Cup 2026 campaign and will represent the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise in the upcoming season of the IPL.
