Captain of Rajasthan Royals (RR) Riyan Parag Their poor form continued after another low score against Gujarat Titans (GT) in Qualifier 2 of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) on Friday, May 29.
The 2008 champions batted first at New Chandigarh, with Parag coming in to bat at number five. The right-handed batsman got off to a great start and hit a four and a six on the first two balls against Rashid Khan's bowling. However, the promising start to the innings did not last long, with the 24-year-old falling to Jason Holder in the next over after scoring just 11 runs.
An early dismissal in Qualifier 2 means that Parag has now played three innings without scoring a half-century. The RR captain has had an up-and-down season in the IPL, where he has scored 309 runs in 14 matches at an average of 23.76 while striking at 157.65. Parag's average in 2026 is the lowest in his IPL career since the 2023 season, when he averaged 13 after playing only seven times.
Between 10 and 28 April, Parag played six matches where he scored only 75 runs at an average of 12.50. However, he bounced back to form in the next two matches and scored 90 and 51 against Delhi Capitals. The previous innings played at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium remains his highest score in the IPL this season.
Despite their hot and cold campaign, the Royals have flourished under Parag's captaincy this season. Having the huge responsibility of replacing Sanju Samson as the captain of the franchise, the young batsman guided RR to the playoffs in his first season in charge.
The Jaipur team finished fourth on the points table after 14 matches and qualified for the knockouts after a final-day win over Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, in which Parag scored just 14 runs. Now he will be hoping to become only the third captain in RR history to guide them to an IPL final.
