Rohit Sharma did not play the 30th match of IPL 2026 between GT and MI: Reasons given

Gujarat Titans (GT) are bowling first for the ongoing match number 30 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 Against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Monday, April 20. Star batsman Rohit Sharma, who plays for MI, is unfortunately not part of the lineup announced by the five-time champions for this game.

GT vs MI: Toss Update

GT captain Shubman Gill tossed the coin and it went in his favour, following which he explained his decision to bowl first on a balanced Motera deck. He said that the team wants to chase the target here, as the pitch is expected to be better for batting in the latter half of the match. Meanwhile, Mumbai captain Hardik Pandya also said that he would have liked to bowl first if he had won the toss.

GT vs MI: Rohit still not well; MI gave two debut caps

The reason behind Rohit Sharma's absence for this game is very clear, as the star cricketer has still not recovered from the injury that caused him to retire hurt during the game against Royal Challengers Bangalore more than a week ago. As a result, MI has brought in Vidarbha talent Danish Malewar To replace the experienced campaigner. Malewar is making his IPL debut along with Krish Bhagat, who recently joined the team as a replacement for the injured Atharva Ankolekar. Bhagat will play in place of Deepak Chahar.

GT vs MI: What did the captains say?

Shubman Gill, GT Captain,

To be honest, it looks like a good wicket. There was some dew in the last match. So just if it's today, I think it would make more sense. It is always good to have a goal on the board and then try to chase it. I think the way we have been bowling forward has been very positive for us, even in the last match and the one before that. So hopefully we can continue our bowling rhythm going forward and then Rashid Khan has been really good for us in the middle overs. So hopefully we all will continue to move forward like this.

It's always good to get some runs under the belt and in a tournament like IPL, a long tournament, if you start well, you can have a really good season. And this is what I will strive for. It's always a good challenge to play against him. I think they are a strong team and hopefully it will be a good match. We are going with the same team.

Hardik Pandya, MI Captain,

We would also do fielding. Obviously this is the last game for us as a group. We had to gather again and talk about what Mumbai Indians means and what kind of game we want to play. And we had a lot of conversations. People are waiting for the game. (Have you recovered from such situations before?) Yes, most of the time no. So this time we want to make sure that we get off to a winning start and make sure that we play some good cricket and tick the box whenever we have to. And yes, just supporting each other, sticking to each other.

There will be tough times, but yes, just stand by each other and go out and play some good cricket. (Areas of improvement) I think we need to play better cricket overall, I can't point to one factor. As I've said before, we win together, we lose together. So as a group we need to get better. It's a fresh day. The sun has risen again and just in a positive way. Some debuts for us. Danish (Malewar) made his debut for Mumbai Indians. And Krish (Bhagat) also, who was part of the supporting bowlers, really impressed us. He had joined the team only three days ago and life is such that he is playing even today.
