Saikia, who hails from Assam, is a former first-class cricketer. He is currently the Joint Secretary of BCCI.
Binny used his constitutional powers to appoint Saikia as acting secretary in a stop-gap arrangement until a permanent secretary was appointed under BCCI rules and regulations.
In a letter addressed to Saikia, which is in the possession of PTI, Binny cited Clause 7(1) (d) of the BCCI constitution to hand over secretarial powers to Saikia, who is also the Advocate General of Assam.
“In case of vacancy or illness, the Chairman shall hand over the work to some other office bearer until the vacancy is duly filled or the illness ceases.
Binny wrote, “Accordingly, until this post is filled as per the procedures laid down in the rules and regulations of BCCI, I hand over the charge of Secretary to you. I am confident that you will perform the duties to the best of your abilities and confidence.” will follow.” Saikia.
It is understood that Saikia will remain in the role until September next year before the vacancy is filled permanently.
