Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) Director of Cricket Mo Bopat has made a big revelation revealing Devdutt Padikkal as a possible future captaincy option for RCB. Currently, Rajat Patidar is leading the franchise, having led RCB to two consecutive IPL titles.
Padikkal He was one of the standout performers for RCB as the Bengaluru side won the IPL trophy for the second consecutive time under the leadership of Rajat Patidar. Batting at No. 3, the left-handed batsman scored 464 runs in 15 innings at an impressive strike rate of 168.73.
Their aggressive approach complemented the explosive start provided by openers Virat Kohli and Phil Salt, helping RCB maintain the momentum in the powerplay and middle overs. Padikkal's performances have not only cemented his position in the batting lineup, but have also earned him praise from the franchise management.
RCB director of cricket Mo Bobat praised the 25-year-old, highlighting both his impact with the bat and his leadership qualities. Bobat revealed how the team wanted Padikkal to adopt a more attacking role and credited him for accepting the challenge.
“We wanted him to really push the boundaries of his intention, and really make an impact. We had Salty (Salt) and Virat working quite hard at the top, and we wanted Dev (Padikkal) to keep that momentum going when he came to the crease. And to his credit, he completely got into it and embraced it. And he batted very unselfishly, and I think that's a huge credit to Dev,” Bobat. Said in RCB's documentary series RCB's Trophy Quest.
The RCB official went a step further and hinted that Padikkal could emerge as a leadership candidate for the franchise in the future.
Bobat added, “I'm also very impressed with him as a character. I think he's really a leader. I think he's a potential captain for the future.”
Whereas Rajat Patidar Having led RCB to unprecedented success by winning two consecutive IPL titles, Padikkal's rapid development has made him one of the franchise's most valuable long-term assets. Having already spent several seasons with the Bengaluru team and being a local talent, the left-hander is seen as someone who understands the culture and identity of the team.
