former indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin He believes that Royal Challengers Bangalore have a strong chance of adding another title during the current three-year IPL cycle. Having secured their first trophy in 2025, RCB are already seen as favorites for the upcoming season.
The franchise took a bold decision by retaining only Virat Kohli, Yash Dayal and Rajat Patidar after the Indian Premier League 2024. He then strengthened his team in the mega auction by bringing in Phil Salt, Jitesh Sharma, Josh Hazlewood, Tim David and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. With their long-awaited title win drought over and the team now on top of form, Ashwin feels RCB won't have to wait long to win another trophy.
“RCB can win another title in the next two years with this team. It is not easy to win the IPL, but they have the building blocks, the kind of replacements they have, the way they have addressed the shortcomings in the combination. It is a good package to finish in the top two,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.
Ashwin also believes that RCB can find a way to include both Salt and Jacob Bethel in their playing eleven. RCB are facing an early setback in their campaign, with Hazlewood not yet joining the team. The Australian fast bowler is likely to miss the opening matches after battling injuries in recent months and is still in the recovery process while awaiting full fitness clearance.
Ashwin said, “To be honest, it is a blessing in disguise for RCB. If RCB do not have Hazlewood, and they are worried about Salt's form, then they can play both Salt and Bethel. And when Hazlewood comes back, you will have a clear picture.”
“I don't think Venkatesh Iyer will play in the beginning. Brother, look at their overseas players. Salt, David, Shepherd and Bethel. Oh my God, that's a serious top-four overseas combination you can get. Probably one of the best in the tournament,” he concluded.
