Indian leg spinner Rahul Chahar Sunrisers Hyderabad exit revealed that they did not receive any communication from the franchise after being released ahead of the IPL 2026 mini-auction. Speaking in an exclusive chat with CricTracker, Chahar addressed the circumstances surrounding his SRH stint and is looking forward to a new stint with Chennai Super Kings, who bought him for Rs 5.2 crore in the IPL 2026 mini-auction.
Chahar joins SRH ahead of IPL 2025 as one of their two specialist leg spinners alongside Adam Zampa. Despite SRH investing in him in the auction, the 26-year-old featured in only one match during the season and bowled one over. Chahar was never able to feature in the setup due to lack of opportunities and ultimately, he was released before the mini-auction. Meanwhile, the youngster also pointed out the difference in team culture that he has been a part of.
Some excerpts:
Have you received any message from SRH after the release before the mini auction?
No, there was no message. There was only one thing. He was playing someone else's role from the beginning. So, he said, if we had fed you, we would have supported you for the entire season. This is how we move forward. If you had played earlier, we would have supported you in all the matches. But now, someone else is playing. So, we are going to support him for the season. and sorry. Nothing else. He said, it is not your fault. This is a formality. After migrating from Ramnagar to Delhi in 2011, to making your first-class debut in 2017, what challenges did you face in your cricket journey?
From Mumbai Indians to Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad, how different have you experienced the team cultures?
I think, if we talk about Mumbai Indians, they were like a family for four years. Like, not only during the season, but also in the off-season, someone helps you, or if you want to do some training, or anything related to sports, or personal life, whatever. So, they were there for everything. So, they were like a family. Whereas in Punjab, coaches changed in three years. The players also changed a bit. We couldn't win or qualify. So the culture there was a little different. But still, personally I had a good time in Punjab too.
