Fatima Sana registered her name in the record books by playing a brilliant innings in the third and final T20 match against Zimbabwe women's team at the National Stadium in Karachi on 17 May. The Pakistan captain scored the fastest half-century in women's T20 history and played a sensational inning of 62 not out off just 19 balls.
The 24-year-old broke the previous record for the fastest women's T20I half-century, which was scored in 18 balls and was jointly held by her. Sophie DevinePhoebe Litchfield, and Richa Ghosh. Sana's blistering effort also equaled the fastest half-century in all women's T20 cricket, equaling the record held by Mary Kelly for Warwickshire in the 2022 Super Smash and Laura Harris for Otago in the 2025 Super Smash.
Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Pakistan were in a good position at 152/4 in the 17th over when Sana came in. He wasted no time in making an impact and hit a four off his very first ball against Mitchell Mavunga. The right-handed batsman then launched a brutal attack on the Zimbabwean bowlers, including four consecutive fours off Kudzai Chigora.
Sana took matters to another level in the 19th over by scoring 4, 4, 6, 6 and 4 in the 24th over against Nomvelo Sibanda to end up with 48 runs off just 14 balls. At the other end, Saira Jabeen also scored a brilliant half-century, remaining unbeaten on 50 runs in 32 balls.
The Pakistani captain finally reached her historic milestone by hitting two fours off Zimunu in the last over and then ended her brilliant innings by hitting two more fours. Her innings, studded with 10 fours and two sixes, took Pakistan to 223/4, their second-highest score in women's T20Is after the 237 posted earlier in the series.
After this, Pakistan dominated with the ball and bowled out Zimbabwe for just 90 runs. Sadia Iqbal and Nashra Sandhu performed brilliantly with the ball and shared five wickets between them. sana Completed a memorable all-round performance with figures of 1/28 in 2.1 overs.
