'Not even worth the dust of his feet'

Bihar's batting sensation at the age of just 15 Vaibhav Suryavanshi He has made it into India's squad for the Asian Games as well as the upcoming T20I series against Ireland and England and has become one of the youngest cricketers to receive a national call-up.

While cricket fans and experts are quick to draw comparisons with some of the greatest icons of the game, Vaibhav's father, Sanjeev Suryavanshi, has urged everyone to be patient and stay grounded.

Speaking after his inclusion in the team, Sanjeev expressed immense pride in his son's achievement but stressed that it would be unfair to compare the teenager with legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Sir Don Bradman at this stage.

“This is a huge moment for our family. A huge dream has come true. I haven't spoken to Vaibhav yet; he is currently training in Sri Lanka. I will speak to him soon. Last night he told me that the team selection will be announced today at 1 pm. My heart was beating fast. I told him not to worry – he has played well, and things will be good,” he said in an exclusive conversation with NDTV.

The call-up is the latest milestone in a remarkable journey for a young player who has consistently impressed with his fearless batting and ability to take on established bowlers from the very first ball. However, Sanjeev clarified that such comparisons are premature and unnecessary.

He further said, “Look, it is not right to compare Vaibhav with Sachin or Bradman. These players have performed at a very high level for a long time. At present, Vaibhav is not even equal to the dust at their feet. Such comparisons should not be made.”

In other news, Suryakumar Yadav was officially dropped from the Indian T20I team as both a player and captain. His Mumbai teammate Shreyas Iyer will take over the captaincy from the Ireland series. Left-handed batsman Tilak Verma has been given the responsibility of vice-captain for T20Is.
