talking points
1) Rickelton, Rohit broke the back of LSG
There was an opening partnership of 143 runs between the two. Ryan Rickelton And Rohit Sharma proved to be the defining moment of the game. Chasing 229, MI needed a strong start and both delivered strongly. Their aggressive approach in the powerplay and ability to maintain momentum gave LSG very little room to recover.
2) Puran attacks in vain
Nicholas Pooran played a brilliant inning of 63 runs with the help of eight sixes in just 21 balls. He, along with Mitchell Marsh, took LSG to a challenging score. However, their efforts ultimately went in vain due to MI's lack of success in the early stages of the chase.
3) MI's fearless approach while chasing big targets
Chasing over 220 is never easy, but MI showed remarkable intent and composure. Even after losing wickets in the middle overs, they never allowed the expected pace to build. The finishing touches from Naman Dheer and Will Jacques highlighted MI's batting depth and confidence under pressure.
who said what?
Rishabh Pant, Captain of Lucknow Super Giants
“Obviously, the way we started, I think we should have scored more runs. But there are definitely some good signs. Can't say that. Obviously the boys played freely, but in the end, I think they bowled well because they are definitely used to these conditions. Look, definitely, we scored 10-15 runs less because it was definitely a 220-230 wicket. And the way we started, we got the lead on them. But at the same time, in a wicket like this, you cannot blame the bowlers all the time. They are doing great work for us. So definitely nothing more can be said from them. (What does the team need?) I think we need some good luck, man. That's the only thing I'm going to say. (How to find out destiny?) Yes, I think there will be a lot of blessings working around it. And certainly for this we will have to make some more efforts.”
Suryakumar Yadav, Mumbai Indians captain
“This was not a new thing. We knew we could control the game by taking some wickets. They were about 120 to one. Everyone had their own beliefs and their own plans. The way he bowled was commendable. We even scored 244 runs a few days ago and SRH chased that down. So we knew it could be pursued. It was incredible batting. It is important to start well. He was always in control. By the way, Naman and everyone batted well“
Ryan Rickelton, Player of the Match
“(On partnership with Rohit) One of Mumbai's greatest players, one of India's greatest players, I have enjoyed batting with him. My game suits this ground. Really enjoyed it, the ball really flies here. Always looking to get better. The power we have is through the roof. The class we have makes my role clear.“
