Former England captain Michael Vaughan has suggested Mumbai Indians (MI) to release the captain hardik pandya And he will be replaced by Cameron Green of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for the 2027 Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
MI suffered another defeat in this season's IPL, losing to KKR in their final game of the season at the Eden Gardens. This defeat has thrown more misery on Hardik's role not only as an all-rounder but also as a captain.
Vaughan strongly wants MI to end Hardik's experiment as their captain by releasing him soon. The former England batsman has suggested that the five-time champions trade the Indian all-rounder and bring back Cameron Green from the Knight Riders. The main logic behind the thought process included KKR's potential need for a new captain in the future.
Michael Vaughan said on the Cricbuzz show, “Release. Replace him with Cameron Green. If he wants to remain captain, it would be better to stick with new captains. Maybe KKR. Kolkata will be looking for a new captain. That's why the Green-Hardik swap has happened.”
It is worth mentioning that Green Made his IPL debut for MI in 2023. He scored 452 runs in 16 matches at a strike-rate of 160.28. This also included scoring an unbeaten century against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede Stadium. The Australian international also took six wickets with the ball.
When MI traded Hardik to Gujarat Titans ahead of the 2024 IPL season, the management was forced to trade Green to Royal Challengers Bangalore. The Australian international played only one season for Karnataka before joining KKR for a whopping Rs 25.20 crore in the 2026 mini-auction.
MI The team failed to qualify for the playoffs twice in three seasons under Hardik's captaincy. They finished at the bottom of the standings in 2024 and are poised to finish the 2026 campaign at the bottom or second. The only season where they made the final four was in 2025, where they reached Qualifier 2, but lost to Punjab Kings.
