1983 World Cup winner Kris Srikkanth advised on out of form Jasprit Bumrah When it comes to bowling with the new ball in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, it is important to take a page from Jofra Archer's book.
The England fast bowler is among the leading wicket-takers in IPL 2026, with 14 wickets in nine matches at an average of 8.27. He has been sensational inside the power play and has also taken three wickets with the first balls of his spell this season.
As far as Bumrah is concerned, this charismatic fast bowler is going through a difficult phase. He has taken only two wickets in eight matches at an average of 132. In the clash between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday, Bumrah conceded 54 runs in his four overs and could not take any wicket.
Srikkanth believes that Bumrah bowled many slow balls with the new ball instead of bowling at full speed like Archer.
Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel, “Bumrah also bowled a lot of slow balls. You have the new ball and there are two left-handed batsmen in front of you. Try to get them out. There is no point in Bumrah bowling such slow balls with the new ball. Look what Archer is trying to do in the last few matches. He is bowling with full enthusiasm and getting the batsmen out by getting caught behind and in the slips. That is what Bumrah needs to do. Must try.”
He said, “Bumrah is not finding any rhythm at all. Not a single ball is looking dangerous. Maybe he is tired, so I am not blaming him. But he is clearly not at his best. He is trying hard but looking very normal.”
Mumbai Indians made a huge score of 243/5 in 20 overs on the basis of Ryan Rickelton's brilliant inning of 123* runs in 55 balls in the first innings. However, half-centuries from Travis Head and Heinrich Klaasen and some modest bowling from the home side helped the Orange Army chase down the target in 18.4 overs with six wickets remaining.
