Kyle Jamieson gives demerit point to Vaibhav Suryavanshi for aggressive departure

kyle jamisonThe Delhi Capitals representative has been warned with one demerit point for breaching Level 1 of the Indian Premier League Code of Conduct during Match No. 43 against Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.

The incident took place during Friday night's Jaipur clash, a game which had generated a lot of buzz due to the anticipated face-off between young sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi and star fast bowler Mitchell Starc. However, Jamieson immediately grabbed the headlines by dismissing the teenage batsman in the second over, dimming many hopes of an exciting duel.

Suryavanshi made an immediate impact by confidently driving an overpitch ball to the boundary on the very first ball. The neat shot past long-off demonstrated his composure and talent. But Jamieson responded cleverly on the very next ball. Adjusting his approach, he bowled a dipping fulltoss that deceived the youngster with its late movement and change in trajectory.

Suryavanshi attempted to defend but misjudged the delivery. The ball slipped under his bat, took a slight edge, went through his back pad and onto the stumps, ending his brief but eventful stay at the crease. This was a classic setup, tempting the batsman with a hittable ball before introducing smart variations.

After being dismissed, Jamieson celebrated the wicket by moving closer to the batsman, an action which was considered a breach of conduct guidelines. While Suryavanshi showed commendable restraint by not reacting, the bowler's celebration resulted in disciplinary action from the officials.

“Jamieson was found to have breached Article 2.5 of the IPL's Code of Conduct, which relates to 'using language, actions or gestures which insult another player in a match or may provoke an aggressive reaction.' “The incident occurred in the second over of the first innings when, after dismissing Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Jamieson was found aggressively close to him, which could have caused an aggressive reaction from the batsman,” the BCCI said in the release.

DC returned to winning ways with an impressive seven-wicket win over RR at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Friday, May 1. After winning the toss, RR decided to bat first and posted a strong score of 225 runs. Leading from the front, Riyan Parag played a brilliant inning of 90 runs and scored at an impressive pace of 180. Donovan Ferreira provided a late boost in the death overs and played a quickfire inning of 47 runs to take the Royals to a challenging score.

The opening pair of Pathum Nissanka and KL Rahul laid a strong foundation by making a brilliant partnership of 110 runs. Nissanka played a fluent innings of 62 runs, while Rahul chased down the target with a brilliant 75 runs. His efforts ensured that Delhi remained in control throughout the innings and eventually chased down the target with five balls to spare.
