Jitesh Sharma clarifies on 'unprofessional' comment on Vaibhav Suryavanshi, urges everyone to let him enjoy his youth

Wicketkeeper-batsman of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) Jitesh Sharma Recently, Rajasthan Royals (RR) opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi was in the news after calling him unprofessional. This comment stems from Young's age and light-hearted habits, such as enjoying ice cream and watching cartoons at just 15 years old.

This comment caused some controversy on social media. However, Jitesh later clarified during the RCB Podcast that his statement was made in a friendly context, reflecting the reality of their close relationship and Suryavanshi's young age. He explained this further during a conversation on AB de Villiers' YouTube channel.

“He's a 15-year-old kid who loves ice cream. He comes to my room and eats it with me; I don't eat it, but he does. If a kid doesn't want ice cream, what else will they eat? He comes to our house, talks to my wife and watches videos on YouTube. We're very close—he's like my little brother,” Jitesh said on the RCB Podcast.

Jitesh shrugged off the backlash on social media, insisting that Suryavanshi should be allowed to enjoy her youth despite being in the professional spotlight.

“I don't care what people say. A lot of professionalism is expected from him because he has to perform at this level, but he is still only 15 years old. Let a kid be a kid. When he is with me, he can be himself because I don't judge him. I tell him, 'You are just fifteen years old. Watch TV, eat whatever you want and just focus on your batting.' She is happy this way,” said Jitesh.

Talking about their respective campaigns, Jitesh has scored 63 runs in seven innings at a strike rate of 112.50. Meanwhile, Suryavanshi is enjoying an extraordinary season, scoring 404 runs in 10 innings at an average of 40.40 and a remarkable strike rate of 237.64, including one century and two half-centuries.

RCB will next face Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on May 7 in Lucknow, while RR will take on Gujarat Titans (GT) on May 9 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur.
