James Foster set to join CSK as fielding coach for IPL 2026

james foster He is set to join the coaching staff of Chennai Super Kings for IPL 2026 under the leadership of head coach Stephen Fleming. The former England wicketkeeper-batsman has been appointed as the fielding coach of CSK as the franchise aims to bounce back from a bottom finish last season.

The 45-year-old represented England in seven Tests, 11 ODIs and five T20Is between 2001 and 2009 and is expected to take up his new role later this month. Foster has previously served as the fielding coach of Kolkata Knight Riders and has also worked with franchises like Desert Vipers, Northern Superchargers and Peshawar Zalmi.

“We are looking for a fielding coach. I am hopeful that he will join us,” Super Kings franchise CEO Kasi Viswanathan was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

Apart from head coach Stephen Fleming, the CSK support staff currently includes Mike Hussey as the batting coach, Eric Simmons as the bowling coach, Sridharan Sriram as the assistant bowling coach and Rajiv Kumar who serves as the fielding coach. Russell Radhakrishnan is the team manager.

CSK recently began a pre-season camp for its Indian players, with most of the domestic contingent including MS Dhoni and Ayush Mhatre in attendance. The team has been training at the franchise's high-performance center in preparation for the upcoming season. Sanju Samson and Shivam Dubey, who are currently with the Indian team, are expected to join the camp along with Shreyas Gopal after completing their Ranji Trophy commitments.

Five-time champions CSK had a disappointing campaign last season and finished at the bottom of the table with just four wins from 14 matches. Determined to bounce back stronger, the franchise has executed a blockbuster trade with Rajasthan Royals, which is considered one of the biggest moves in IPL history. In a surprise player swap, CSK included Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran in place of Sanju Samson, who recently played a match-winning unbeaten 97 against West Indies to help India reach the semi-finals.
