Rahul Dravid recently stepped as the head coach of Rajasthan Royals (RR), raising many questions about the reasons behind his departure. Former South African Captain AB de Villiers Has shared its approach on development.
The RR franchise said in an official statement that Dravid was offered a comprehensive role as part of a structural review, but was selected not to accept it. However, de Villiers indicated that the exit was not completely voluntary, suggesting that Dravid was effectively pushed out of the setup.
“Sometimes you see it in the Premier League, as well, the football league, where the manager and the coaches are always under pressure to perform and bring the trophy home. And once they do not, they start listening to the owners and who anyone decides for various franchisees, so we do not really know the facts.
“But Rajasthan may have different views for the upcoming season. They may want to shake things a little and move forward with it. I don't think they had the biggest auction last time, because they allow some incredible players to go, Jose Butler's choice, but some, which I think is a good thing.
In the past, Dravid captained the Rajasthan Royals between 2012 and 2013, which later preceded a patron role with the franchise. The 2008 Champions ended a difficult campaign in IPL 2025, finishing ninth on the points table with only four wins. His struggles were complicated by the injury of skipper Sanju Samson, which forced the team to hand over the captaincy duties to Ryan Parag.
