defending champion Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have been in great form in the current season, having won eight of their 12 matches to top the points table before their game against Punjab Kings on May 17.
Amidst all this, RCB batsman Tim David supported senior batsman Virat Kohli, saying that despite some poor performances at the beginning of the season, the veteran player never looked disappointed.
Kohli bounced back in style with a match-winning century against Kolkata Knight Riders after registering a few low scores recently. However, David revealed that there was never any change in Kohli's mindset or approach during that phase.
David told broadcasters before the match, “To be honest, that doesn't change; unless you're watching TV or something, you wouldn't know he's been out for ducks twice. It was great for him to get a century, it was great for all our fans to see it and it was a match-winning performance.”
The Australian all-rounder credited RCB's impressive campaign this season to the collective efforts of the team rather than relying solely on individual talent.
“We have a lot of guys stepping up on our team this season. Hopefully it'll be him or someone else again, but we're feeling pretty good,” he said.
David lauded RCB's top-order batsmen for their aggressive but measured approach, which has allowed the middle-order players to settle into defined roles.
“At the top, we have some really high-class players. Those guys play good cricketing shots; they feel confident playing aggressively and expressing themselves with the depth we have,” David said.
He also acknowledged that the continuity of the top order often limited the opportunities for lower middle-order batsmen to spend time in the middle.
“We've definitely got guys who don't get as much batting time as they would like because we're seeing guys put on clinics at the top,” he said.
Talking about his form this season, David said that he has been consistently hitting the ball well and focuses on contributing whenever the team needs him.
“To be honest, I'm just thinking ahead most of the time. I feel like I've been batting really well all season long. I just want to perform for the team. I've been hitting the ball consistently well in training, and hopefully when I get my chance in the middle, I can do what the team needs,” he said.
If RCB wins its match PBKS In Dharamsala, they will have a strong chance of finishing in the top-2 in the points table ahead of the IPL playoffs.
