IPL 2026: 'When you want to win the championship, it is important to be excellent everywhere'

Former India chief selector Kris Srikkanth has suggested one change that Punjab Kings should make to their playing XI for their upcoming encounter against Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday, April 28. This eagerly awaited match is going to take place at the Maharaja Yadvendra Singh International Cricket Stadium.

Srikkanth said that despite Punjab Kings being unbeaten in the first seven matches of the season, there are some areas of concern in the bowling department. Former India opener suggests Kings should bring in spin-bowling allrounder Harpreet Brar Fast bowler Vijaykumar has been included in the team in place of Vaish. The latter has taken six wickets at an average of 36.50 in as many innings. His economy rate is a disappointing 10.95.

“His bowling is a bit of a concern. They have to play Harpreet Brar. They need to strengthen their spin attack by bringing him in. As the season progresses, the wickets will also turn more. So Brar should definitely play in place of Vishak Vijaykumar. Brar has a great economy rate and he always does well. He is a very good bowler and does not need turning tracks. He will do well on normal wickets as well.”

Srikanth said that Punjab Kings are giving scores of more than 200 in almost every game. He expressed the need to perform well in all aspects of the game to win the title.

He further said, “PBKS is giving away more than 200 runs in every match. Although they always chase it, giving away 200 runs every time is a matter of concern. It is not a good sign. When you want to win the championship, it is important to be excellent everywhere.”

It could be a very close contest: Srikanth

Srikanth said that the contest between Punjab and Rajasthan could be tough. The cricketer-turned-expert said that while Rajasthan's middle-order is “very weak”, the bowling lineup is strong.

“It could be a very close match. Archer has been on fire, and Nandre Berger on the other side provides great support. But RR's batting is just dependent on their top three. So if PBKS gets early wickets, RR will be in trouble. You can't expect any one of Jaiswal, Suryavanshi and Jurel to score in every match. RR's middle order is very weak, but their bowling is lethal,” Srikkanth said. Said (via the above source).
