Before the important match against Gujarat Titans (GT) Chennai Super Kings (CSK) At the IPL 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 22, Gujarat opener Sai Sudarshan reflected on his journey this season and the emotional bond he shared with CSK.
The left-handed batsman has once again emerged as one of the most reliable players for Gujarat Titans this season. After winning the Orange Cap in IPL 2025, Sudarshan had another impressive campaign, crossing the 500-run mark and playing a crucial role in pushing GT towards the playoffs.
The Tamil Nadu batsman recalled how, during his school days, he and his friends used to wait eagerly on the roadside to catch a glimpse of the CSK team bus. Sudarshan also talked about scoring his maiden IPL century against CSK in the 2024 season and called it a memorable and emotional moment in his career.
“It was not a conscious decision; I think it was God's grace, and it came at the right time. But spending time in between is always special, especially when I play against CSK because, whatever is said and done, I have a deep emotional connection with CSK,” he said while speaking on JioStar.
He further added, “I have grown up watching CSK play. We used to stand on the road to watch the team bus pass by our school. Those are great memories. I am grateful to God that I have been able to put in some memorable performances against CSK.”
Gujarat Titans are eyeing an important win in Ahmedabad. Sudarshan He will once again be expected to play a key role at the top of the order, this time against the franchise that shaped many of his childhood cricket memories. A win against the five-time champions would mean that the IPL 2022 champion will likely enter the playoffs as the top-2 team, and will play Qualifier 1.
