Australian cooper connolly Glenn has refused to be compared with Maxwell after being bought by Punjab Kings in the mini-auction ahead of IPL 2026. Connolly, who was recently bought by Punjab Kings for Rs 3 crore, is currently representing Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League.
Connolly expressed his excitement to represent PBKS and hopes to play a key role for the franchise during the upcoming IPL instalment.
“Yeah, I guess the comparisons maxiI'll take it. But he is a world class player. I'm far from being as good as him. The only thing I am waiting for is to play some positive cricket and win matches for Punjab [Kings],” India Today quoted Connolly as saying.
The 22-year-old batting all-rounder said he is looking forward to being with his PBKS teammates next year and making the upcoming journey a memorable one.
“It's going to be an exciting group. Obviously, last year, they didn't win it all. But I think this year looks promising. I'm really looking forward to getting into the group and chasing that trophy. It's going to be a good season,” he said.
Connolly's base price was fixed at Rs 2 crore. PBKS Kolkata Knight Riders went ahead to secure it. IPL 2026 will be the Australian youngsters' first season in the tournament. The IPL 2025 runners-up cost Rs 8 crore in the auction in Abu Dhabi on December 16. He had Rs 3.5 crore left in the bank. Apart from Connolly, Marcus Stoinis, Mitchell Owen, Xavier Bartlett and Ben Dwarshuis are the other Australians in the squad.
Connolly has been in top form with the bat in the Scorchers' first two matches of the season. He started the campaign with a blistering 59 off 31 balls (against Sydney Sixers), which included three fours and five sixes, and then bettered that score in the Scorchers' next match (against Brisbane Heat), scoring 77 off just 37 balls.
