Tremendous performance by Jasprit Bumrah Indian Premier League The 2026 season continued to attract attention after Mumbai Indians put up another wicketless performance against Lucknow Super Giants at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday. The leading fast bowler conceded 45 runs without taking any wicket, which is the seventh time this season that he has not got any wicket.
His performance has now sparked conversations about workload management and usage, with experts suggesting franchises may need to re-evaluate their approach.
Veda Krishnamurthy recommended an open dialogue between the team management and Bumrah regarding his physical and mental condition after the game against LSG.
“We are at a place where the management, or the coach or even the captain – Surya[kumar Yadav] Very close to him, he is the vice-captain of the team – and Rohit [Sharma] around, they can probably sit down and have a honest conversation. Ask him: 'Are you feeling 100% inside'; 'Do you want to take a break for a game'. So that he comes back refreshed. This is something you can probably ask him and hope he gives you an honest answer,” said Veda Krishnamurthy on ESPNcricinfo.
Former India cricketer Sanjay Bangar also had similar words, saying that MI may have to take a difficult decision depending on their priorities for the remainder of the season.
“It also depends on what the coach and the management are thinking. I mean, from a coaching perspective or from a management perspective, if it is okay for Mumbai to play without Bumrah, if it is okay for Mumbai to finish the season lower down the order, that is to say, as far as the static point is concerned, if that is the case, then I think Bumrah can probably do that by not playing the rest of the games, you know,” Bangar said.
In the match against LSG, Bumrah was introduced early in the second over and conceded 10 runs. However, his next over proved costly as it yielded 21 runs. Despite the early setback, Bumrah showed signs of improvement in the latter stages of the innings, as he returned to bowl the 14th and 19th overs, where he conceded only seven runs.
Meanwhile, Bangar pointed out that Bumrah's struggles were not due to lack of effort but possibly due to the MI captains and management mishandling his bowling quota.
“He is trying very, very hard and scoring 31 runs in the first two overs is the complete opposite of Bumrah. Average speed of 134 and fastest is 141 [in the game]. So he's trying his best – you can see in his body language that he's in pain – but I just feel he's not being used correctly. He was bowled in the second over, then again in the fourth,” he concluded.
Despite this, Mumbai Indians emerged victorious against LSG at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai as they chased down 229 with ease. Ryan Rickelton He was chosen Player of the Match for his brilliant innings.
