IPL 2026: Mitchell Starc cleared to return to IPL, eyes return for Delhi Capitals in early May


Australia's leading fast bowler Mitchell Starc He is set to join the Indian Premier League in 2026 after being free from shoulder and elbow concerns. The left-hander is expected to travel to India on Friday, April 24.

The 36-year-old fast bowler aims to make a comeback for Delhi Capitals in the clash against Rajasthan Royals on May 1, provided he completes his preparation without any setbacks. It will be a big boost for the Axar Patel-led team to have a bowler of Starc's caliber to lead their bowling line-up.

Starc performed very well for the Delhi-based franchise in IPL 2025, taking 14 wickets at an economy rate of 10.17 in just 11 matches. He also recorded his first five-wicket haul in the league this season.

Starc has been out of competitive cricket since late January due to the demands of fixtures. He played a key role for the Australian team during the Ashes, where he bowled an astonishing 150+ overs in five Test matches, taking 31 wickets at an impressive average of 19.93 to earn the Player of the Series award.

After this he acted in big bash league for the Sydney Sixers, helping them reach the finals. However, during the game against the Perth Scorchers, Starc suffered a heavy injury to his left shoulder and elbow while attempting a catch.

After taking a break in February, the fast bowler experienced discomfort upon returning to bowling, delaying his IPL arrival and creating uncertainty over his participation. The situation also gave rise to speculation, prompting Starke to publicly address the issue and express frustration at the widespread misinformation surrounding his absence.

In a positive update for DC, Starc recently completed a full week of pain-free bowling sessions at home in Sydney. He is expected to undergo some acclimatization after reaching India and gradually increase his workload, before being match-ready for the Jaipur match.
