Mumbai Indians Defeated Lucknow Super Giants by six wickets in a thrilling chase at the Wankhede Stadium in Match 48 of the Indian Premier League 2026.
When invited to bat, Lucknow Super Giants did not have a good start and Mitchell Marsh thrashed the Mumbai bowlers. Josh Inglis lost cheaply in his first game, but Marsh stepped up and was soon joined by Nicholas Pooran, an emerging player. The pair scored 94 runs in just 35 balls to put the Super Giants on a strong platform. Mumbai Indians pulled things back and kept the Super Giants in control and ended the innings at 228/5.
Ryan Rickelton and the returning Rohit Sharma got Mumbai Indians off to a great start as they put together another brilliant opening partnership of 143 runs off 65 balls, smashing the ball into all parts of the stands. Rickelton was out after scoring 83 runs in just 32 balls, but Rohit took this momentum forward by scoring a brilliant 84 runs in 44 balls. The Super Giants picked up a few wickets but Naman Dhir and Will Jacques ensured the five-time champions reached home with eight balls to spare.

1) Puran is back in form
Nicholas Pooran had scored just 82 runs this season and looked like a shadow of his former self. He returned to form by playing a destructive innings and scored 63 runs in just 21 balls. He started his attack by hitting three sixes in one over from Will Jacks and scored 16 more runs from the boundary in the next over from AM Ghazanfar. The left-handed batsman completed his half-century in just 16 balls, which was his first half-century of this season. He has eight maximum sixes in his innings, which is a reminder of what he can do with the bat. Their loss left LSG at 90/1 in the powerplay, their highest score in IPL history.

2) Rickelton's excellent form continues
In Ryan Rickelton's last game at the Wankhede Stadium, he scored a brilliant century against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Continuing his excellent form, he scored 83 runs on 32 balls. He faced the Super Giants bowlers and easily dismissed them in the stands. He was aggressive in building a massive partnership of 143 runs in just 65 balls with Rohit Sharma, which set the stage for the chase. He put on a brutal display of hitting, hitting six fours and eight sixes.
3) Rohit returned home with a bang
Rohit Sharma He made his much-awaited return to the Mumbai Indians team after missing the last few matches due to a hamstring injury. Arriving as an impressive player, he dazzled his home crowd with excellent attacking batting displays. He took on the Super Giants bowlers with the trademark elegance of his batting.
