IPL 2026: MI vs CSK, Match 33 Highlights

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) comprehensively defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) By 103 runs at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday, April 23.

On Thursday, Hardik Pandya won the toss and decided to bowl first. However, the move was to no avail, at least in the first few overs, as Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sanju Samson performed strongly. However, after a good start the former player was out. Sarfaraz Khan looked good during his brief stay at the crease before Mitchell Santner clean bowled him.

Shivam Dubey was promoted to number 3, but could not make any impact. Dewald Brewis and Jamie Overton delivered some powerful hits, while Karthik Sharma could manage only 18 runs from 19 balls. However, the innings was taken over by Sanju Samson, who finished with 101* off 54 balls. CSK scored 207/6 in 20 overs.

In the second innings, Ruturaj handed the new ball to Akeal Hosein and the West Indies spinner bowled the ball immediately. He dismissed Danish Malewar in his very first over. Mukesh Chaudhary supported it by taking the wicket of Quinton de Kock in the second over. Akil made a comeback and sent Naman Dheer back to the hut four balls later.

Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Verma tried to revive the innings by making a partnership of 73 runs in 56 balls, but the required run rate kept increasing. Akil dismissed both of them due to which Mumbai's batting collapsed badly. From 84/3, Mumbai were all out for 104 runs in 19 overs. Akeel took four wickets, while Noor took two.

Key moments of the match:

1. Sanju Samson lights up Wankhede Stadium

Sanju Samson lit up Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium with his exemplary batting performance. The 31-year-old hasn't got too many starts this season, but when he has, he has made it count. Samson remained unbeaten in difficult conditions and scored 101 runs in 54 balls. He hit 10 fours and six sixes to thwart the Mumbai bowlers and take Chennai to a score of over 200.

2. Akeal Hossein dominates the power play

Akeal Hosein has dominated the power play overs while playing for West Indies. He has also been a threat with the new ball in other franchise leagues around the world. On Thursday, he chose IPL as his platform to entertain cricket lovers. The left-arm spinner dismissed Danish Malewar and Naman Dheer in the first and second overs respectively. Later, he came back to dispatch the good pair of Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Verma.

3. AM Ghazanfar's performance is the only ray of hope for MI

AM Ghazanfar put in another brilliant performance with the ball. He took charge against the dangerous Sanju Samson and took big wickets of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shivam Dubey. Ruturaj's wicket was crucial as the Chennai skipper got off to a great start. In the end, Ghazanfar finished with excellent figures of 2/25 in his four-over spell.
