Manoj Tiwari said this Riyan Parag He did not do justice to his potential during Rajasthan Royals' four-wicket defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens on Sunday, April 19.
Parag was out after scoring 12 runs in 14 balls when he tried to loft Varun Chakraborty's ball towards the leg side. However, the Royals captain played around the ball and missed it completely, with the ball hitting the off stump. This was the fourth wicket of the Royals' innings and the incident occurred in the 15th over.
Tiwari believes that Parag's shot selection left much to be desired, especially at a time when the defending champions needed a partnership.
Manoj Tiwary on Cricbuzz said, “I was a bit disappointed with Riyan Parag's shot selection, as he couldn't read it at all. It was a situation where RR needed a partnership, but he will definitely be disappointed because he didn't play with the kind of ability and potential he has.”
These two become lethal when the ball rotates: Manoj Tiwari on Sunil Narine and Varun Chakraborty
Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine laid a trap for Rajasthan's batsmen by taking three and two wickets respectively. Royals finished at a lowly 155/9 after electing to bat first.
Tiwary said that the pitch was dry as it was an afternoon game and hence, the spinners got a lot of purchase. The cricketer turned specialist mentioned that Narine and Chakravarthy become lethal when they get help from the surface.
Tiwary said, “It was good to see KKR bowling like that. I was feeling that the spinners would come and play their role and they both did that. Today the surface helped them, it was a little dry because it was an afternoon game, so the ball was spinning. The inbound ball was also spinning and when the ball spins, both of them become lethal.”
KKR chased down the target with four wickets and two balls to spare and achieved their first win of the season. Rinku Singh (53*) and Anukul Roy (29*) made a strong partnership of 76 runs in 37 balls for the seventh wicket and led their team to victory.
