Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) made Madhya Pradesh all-rounder Mangesh Yadav For Rs 5.2 crore in IPL auction. The 23-year-old later revealed that although he expected interest from at least one franchise, he never expected that four teams would enter the bidding war and significantly increase their base price.
Mangesh had entered the auction with a base price of Rs 30 lakh. RCB started the bidding, with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) soon joining the fray. An intense battle followed, with a total of 41 bids placed for the promising all-rounder. Both franchises appeared equally determined to secure his services before RCB finally succeeded for Rs 5.2 crore.
Reflecting on that moment, Mangesh said the scale of interest was surprising and described the experience as overwhelming. He said that after his selection, he received more phone calls than ever before in his life, which shows how quickly his profile has risen after the auction.
“I have received more calls than ever before. But these are things I will have to deal with going forward. I didn't know how it all felt, but I am lucky to have a lot of people like Rajat from my own state [Patidar] Brother, Venky [Iyer] Bhaiya and Anand Rajan [former Madhya Pradesh seamer] Sir for guidance. Not asking my father for money felt like an accomplishment. Today, I still don't know how to express the feeling of getting such a big bid. I want to make my parents feel comfortable. For this I have to work hard and I cannot get carried away,” Mangesh told ESPNcricinfo.
Despite the glitz and glamor associated with the IPL, Mangesh revealed that his immediate focus is on consistently performing well in domestic cricket, especially the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Mangesh has enjoyed a remarkable rise in the ranks, especially during the 2025 Madhya Pradesh Premier League, where he finished as the leading wicket-taker. He took 14 wickets in just six matches, which underlines his effectiveness and consistency with the ball. Representing Gwalior Cheetahs, Mangesh took three four-wicket hauls in his six matches.
“I have imagined what it would be like to wear the RCB jersey and stand at the top of my run-up. But I have also imagined taking wickets and winning games for MP. That is my primary goal,” Mangesh said.
