great indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar There are a few words for the management of Mumbai Indians after their disappointing performance in the Indian Premier League 2026. The former Mumbai player has suggested that the five-time champions should seriously consider giving youngsters a chance in their remaining games.
It has been a terrible season so far for the Mumbai-based franchise, having won only three of their 11 matches, while losing the remaining eight. As a result, they are already out of the competition with three matches remaining.
Speaking ahead of MI's next encounter against Punjab Kings, Gavaskar gave an interesting suggestion to the MI management. Both the teams are set to clash in the 58th match of IPL 2026 at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala.
“I am a Mumbai Indians supporter. And now that they are out of the playoff race, I would like to see them try out some young players. Who they drop is their decision and that of their management. But they have some young players in the reserves who have not yet got a chance to prove their worth. Give them a chance in the remaining three matches and see what they are. That way, you will be in a better position for the next season,” Sunil Gavaskar on Star Sports 'Cricket Live' Talked.
The right-hander further shed light on PBKS After a great start to their season, they will be under pressure after losing four matches in a row. After the recent collapse, this match against MI will be crucial for the IPL 2025 finalists.
He further added, “Punjab Kings will be desperate to get back to winning ways. After losing four games in a row, you start doubting yourself. Then you start looking around. You think if you need to make a change in the playing eleven or do something different. Punjab will want to win.”
Kings are currently at fourth position in the points table with 13 points. To secure a place in the playoffs, they will have to win a few more matches.
