Former Indian cricketer Kris Srikkanth believes Chennai Super Kings should have been bought Mustafizur Rahman In the IPL 2026 auction. Mustafizur was eventually bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 9.2 crore.
Srikkanth mentioned that Mustafizur would have been an ideal replacement for the released Mathisha Pathirana in terms of death-bowling options.
Srikkanth shared in a video on his YouTube channel, “CSK missed a trick by not getting Mustafizur. Once they decided to let Pathirana go, they should have gone all out for Mustafizur. Even if he had gone for Rs 12 or Rs 15 crore, they should have signed him. CSK badly needs a bowler like him. They don't have a death bowler like him.”
Commenting further on CSK's possible team combination, he stressed the need to include Akeal Hosein in the eleven to complement the wrist-spin of Noor Ahmed.
He said, “Only one of Karthik Sharma and Prashant Veer can play in the playing eleven. I still believe that Akeal Hosein should be in the eleven. He is a very good choice because, like Ravindra Jadeja, he bowls very well. You can't just rely on Noor Ahmed, so you need Akeal Hosein. We don't know how Prashant Veer will bowl.”
For those who are unaware, Chennai Super Kings had started the bidding process for Mustafizur. CSK first fought a tough fight against Delhi Capitals and later against KKR. CSK did not bid for the Bangladeshi fast bowler after KKR valued the left-arm pacer at Rs 9.2 crore.
Mustafizur has played eight seasons in the IPL, taking 65 wickets in 60 matches at an economy rate of 8.13. Mustafizur appeared for CSK for a one-off season in 2024. He recorded his IPL career-best figures of 4/29 during that season.
