chennai super kings batsman Ayush Mhatre Michael Hussey has been ruled out of the team after he suffered a hamstring injury following Chennai Super Kings' 10-run defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Uppal. The current CSK batting coach admitted that the injury “looks bad” and described the No. 3 batsman as a significant loss for the team.
Mhatre, who played a quickfire 20 off 13 balls during CSK's failed chase in Hyderabad, looked in good touch early on and gave the team the much-needed momentum. However, while attempting to take the second run with captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, he strained his left hamstring and required immediate medical attention.
Although he kept running for a while, Mhatre struggled to run between the wickets and was out early to a sharp catch by Heinrich Klaasen off Nitish Kumar Reddy. While returning, he had to seek help from Ramakrishna Ghosh and team physio Taifun Simsek outside the field.
“Obviously it's a hamstring tear. I don't know how bad it is. They'll scan him tomorrow, or the next day I'm not sure. But yeah, unfortunately feeling pretty bad. He's going to be a big loss, because he's been in really good contact for us. He's an exciting young talent but it's going to give that opportunity to someone else. It's also exciting: We have some very good players who haven't been able to get that opportunity. It's exciting to have one of those guys. It's going to happen,” Cricbuzz quoted Hussey as saying.
“We're really disappointed to lose Ayush, I don't know for how long, but it's exciting for a new player to come in and get a chance,” he said.
CSK now have a four-day break before facing arch-rivals Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on April 23. Urvil PatelThe man, who scored a century in 28 balls in T20 cricket and previously batted at No. 3 for CSK, is a strong option to replace Mhatre in the team.
